Update 0.0.0.1: Getting Played by Jelly Patch
As we've stated in the game page description and in the issues page the game is currently very buggy as expected of a jam game. We were planning to gather and consolidate the issues and start working on it after we take a break, but Jelly Hoshiumi in all of her wisdom have decided to play the jam games (which include us!) on 16 April 2025. After publishing the game and getting people to play our game, there were far more gamebreaking bugs that we'd realized. To ensure Jelly has a (somewhat) smooth experience playing, we decided to do quick fixes. As of writing this devlog, the PhaseJam voting period is still ongoing, so we're limiting ourselves to fixes that require minimum code and does not entirely change the gameplay.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed a bug where the Forge content does not refresh upon visiting a new forge
- Fixed several cards not having the correct description (includes, but not limited to Hype Train, Conform to Circumstance, Crouch, Cry Out etc.)
- Fixed Table Slam triggering its Combo effect below the intended Combo 6
- Fixed a bug where sometimes old dev UI would show up upon certain button presses
- Fixed Confusion, Procure Protection, and Overcommit card art.
- Fixed a bug where Light Roast Coffee Beans Trinket gave 1 Strength instead of 1 Dexterity.
- Fixed a bug where the Act 2 Boss failing to do her opening Action
- Fixed a bug where The Final Boss sometimes fail to do her intended attack sequence
Balance Changes:
We know we said the changes doesn't change gameplay, but we've been getting reports that the Act 1 Boss is too strong. We agree. It mainly came down due to an oversight in the Burn mechanic. Fixing these would require extensive code rehaul and we can't do that yet. In the context of a gamejam, we'd be leaving this in. However, in addition to Jelly wanting to play the game, a lot of players have given feedback that this issue forces them to build around one specific archetype that can perform a One-Turn-Kill, as it's the one way to avoid taking her Burn damage. Then, if your deck can do OTKs, subsequent bosses become trivial. Therefore, as a temporary fix, to ensure smoother gameplay, as well as allowing the other bosses to slightly show up in the game, we're (heavily) nerfing the Act 1 Boss while also buffing the other two. The OTK decks still exist, as it would need extra effort to write out the balance, but other decks should be able to survive Act 1 and fight the other bosses just fine.
Act 1 Boss:
- HP Reduced from 240 to 220
- First Attack no longer apply Burn.
- No longer heals herself.
- Second Action changed from (8x2 Damage, apply 20 Burn) to (8 damage, apply 4 Burn)
Act 2 Boss:
- Now properly summons her underlings at the start of battle
- HP increased from 240 to 280
- Second Action changed from (24 damage) to (24 damage, shuffle an Injury to your deck) [Injury: Unplayable. When drawn, lose 2HP]
Final Boss:
- HP Increased from 500 to 550
- Second Attack changed from (Deal 25 damage) to (Deal 35) damage.
- Fourth Attack changed from (Deal 20 damage, shuffle 2 Lethargy to your deck) from (Deal 20 damage, shuffle 3 Lethargy to your deck) [Lethargy: Unplayable. When drawn, lose 1PP. Transient.]
- Swapped the execution order of the Second and Fourth Attack.
- Fifth Action changed from (Cleanse all Debuffs, Gain 3 Strength) to (Cleanse all Debuffs, Gain 3 Strength, Gain 66 Shield).
And that's it for now. We will be doing a self-imposed code freeze after this as we comb through the issues and bugs (that some of you might have provided! Thank you very much!)
Hopefully we'll be able to do deeper fixes after the jam period is over. In the mean time please enjoy this slightly more stable build. Here's a parting note from our Lead Illustrator:
"just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS (ember was harder pre-patch) for the act 1 clear (which is easier now) i know youve been working really hard (ember used to be harder) and nobody can take the achievement from you (i beat ember on jam build it was harder)" - peppy
Until next time.
